During the 2020 Covid lockdown communities across the country found it hard to stay connected, and many people were suddenly very much on their own. As dance teachers (with Tangosynthsis) ourselves we were looking for a way to bring people back together, and - with all the equipment we had lying around that was not being used for anything - we soon realised that we had everything in place to set up a small internet radio station. So after a bit of setup and testing we began broadcasting Jivebeat Radio from a corner of The Lacuna Works' workshop.
The station became surprisingly popular and has started to take on a life of its own, and this success made us realise that other people might want to do something similar. Internet radio could easily be a service we could offer at festivals and events as we restart sometime in 2021.
Local Broadcast for Events
When running events with small stages based at one part of a larger venues - such as a multi-room dance event on a large site, or a festival with small stages scattered around a larger area - we have often been asked if there was a way to make the music accessible to people as they walk around the event, wherever they are. With this system we can do that (subject to adequate WiFi or 3G / 4G mobile coverage).
We can set up a dedicated internet radio channel for the event, and can broadcast what is happening on one or more of the stages to be received directly onto attendees' mobile phones. QR codes posted around the site can direct people to the relevant website, and they can continue to listen to the music (or discussion panels, if that is more relevant to your event) even whilst moving around the site.
If you would like to set up your own internet radio station and associated podcast but have no idea where to begin then give us a call. Getting started does not have to be expensive, but unless you know what you are doing it is easy to end up buying lots of unnecessary equipment because someone convinced you it was just what you needed.
We do not sell equipment, so our advice is not biased towards buying or not buying something just because we get a commission. We will advise you on what is necessary to get going, what would be a suitable upgrade path in the future, and help you with setting everything up.
If you would like us to set up a similar solution for you then please get in touch. Every quote is individually tailored to your specific needs so there are no guideline prices for this, but you might be surprised how reasonable this could be.
All prices are subject to VAT @ 20%, and are based on being within 40 miles of Biggin Hill (not including central London). Please see our Terms and Conditions especially the section regarding power supply.
